Craziness from Missouri

My man Andy's keeping his eye on things back in Missouri for me. It's getting easier for me to say I'm from Illinois.

"I hate Illinois Nazis." - Elwood Blues

Hancock Amendment (Republican sponsored legislation): Forced the State to refund to the people ANY surplus in the state treasury. In the years since this bill passed, Missouri has had to repeatedly cut the budget (specifically in education funding) because once the surplus was refunded, a deficit has taken its place.

Matt Blunt attempted to cut Missouri's First Steps Program and Head Start: My wife is a First Steps care provider who without state funding could no longer diagnose or give therapy to developmentally disabled children.

A bill has been introduced that will send doctors to prison for 15 years for performing any abortion that is not specifically intended to save the life of the mother. We already have a shortage of qualified docs due to astronomical malpractice insurance rates in this state.

Now we have a resolution proclaiming Christianity to be the official state religion. Does this sound familiar? I believe countries like Iran have official state religions, too. Anyone who fails to recognize the state sponsored religion is in for a heavy dose of "indoctrination." Is that what our founding fathers had in mind?

I thought Kansas was sliding back to the stone age for firing teachers who refused to teach Creationism, but now I think Missouri may be vying for the title of "Redest Red State in America."

Illinois? Really? Well, if its good enough for the Blues Brothers...

Did I ever mention that I drive an old cop car, have dogs named Jake and Elwood, and have brainwashed my 5 year old into loving the Blues Brothers as much as I do? Alex knows their music, has seen the movie a couple times, and asked for Blues Brothers Action Figures for his birthday (yes they do exist: I spotted some on eBay).

That was a good post on Andy's site. 100% agree with what he wrote.
