Obama and the Media
The Media is trying to tie Obama to the Illinois Governor. Maybe they could talk about his role in the ethics bill that helped bring the Governor down.
The article DOES tie him to Blagojavich as recently as 2006 and even mentions his ties to Illinois politics through Emil Jones and Antoin Rezko. And I doubt that Obama pushed this ethics bill to bring him down.
Blagojavich's platform when he ran for governor in 2002 was for CHANGE following an ineffective (and in this case, corrupt) administration. Now it turns out the Blagojavich (bring back Ryan - his name was easier to type) is as corrupt or more than his predecessor. Obama, whether he likes it or not, is going to be tied to this governor because of his state, his political party, his platform, and his connections.
But I don't believe he should be condemned for this. Is Obama a powerful figure with strong political connections? Yeah...how do you think he got where he is? He is doing all he can to distance himself from this mess, as he should. I would distance myself from anyone who has an approval rating less than half that of George W.
And of course he is tied to Illinois politics - I would be worried if a rising Senator isn't an active player in his own state's politics. Imagine how the media would crucify any politician who wasn't tied into his state's political structure. He would be painted as distant and uncaring.
I will freely admit that I did not vote for Obama. His inexperience does scare me a little. I believe he is coming into the second most difficult situation for a first term President (Reagan was first). But I am impressed with what he has done and said since the election. He has not backed down from his platform and has moved from preaching change to practicing change.
All I can say at this point is - "Good luck, Barack, you're gonna need it"
I didn't say he pushed it through to bring down Blago. He pushed Emil Jones to go against the Governor to get it passed though.
Why would Obama's inexperience scare you more than McCain's obvious lack of knowledge regarding the economy?
Did you see the skit on Saturday night live where Blago went before Congress? The Liddy Dole character said, "Governor, your actions are an embarassement to the state of Illinois. Well, maybe not Illinois, but if you were governor if any other state you'd be an embarrassment."
My main point of the post is that the media is tying him to Blago w/o any evidence of wrong doing. The segment on the TV usually starts with "there's no evidence of wrongdoing, but will Blogo cast a cloud over the new administration?"
This is ridiculous speculation that shouldn't have any place on these shows. It hearkens back to the invented "Chinese Missile Crisis." This "Scandal" was invented by the media. Eventually, the "missing" hard drive was found under a copier. The New York Times had to retract baseless stories, and a Federal judge apologized to Wen Ho Lee.
It would be nice if they had some evidence before they started speculating.

You can't be serious. Reagan had it harder than Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Truman, Lyndon Johnson or even Nixon? I don't believe you've thought that comment through.
