The Frozen Tundra

Shelly and I attended our first game at Lambeau Field on Sunday. It was a great experience. It was football in all its glory. No Dome. No fake grass.

This statue stands outside the newly added atrium. Apparently, this guy coached the Packers for a few years and won a few games.

We saw a typical Packers game. It ended with Favre driving his team down the field. Unfortunately, his line let him down, and the Rams forced a game-deciding turnover.

Favre is definitely not done yet. He made some terrific throws with Rams defenders circling him. He made a couple of throws that only he could make.

Bulger played well for the Rams, too. If only they could figure out how to score in the red zone.

Shelly pretended I didn't exist for about three hours. I still don't understand why.

Here's my brother-in-law, Tom, in front of a mural of his favorite linebacker.

I guess you could say the line let him down but he should know better than to take a hit with 30 seconds left - get rid of the ball so you can at least kick the game-tying field goal. He knew the blitz was coming. Another gift for the Rams courtesy of a fading quarterback.

During the game Fox showed a fascinating statistic. The Packers were 46 and 0 in games in which Favre had not thrown an interception. 46 and 1 now, I guess.

They also showed a sign held up by a Packers fan which had Favre's name spelled Farve. I liked that.

It was the Blitz that got him? A Packer fan told me a lineman got him.

The Rams have been accepting gifts this whole season. The Broncos gave them one in week 1. I would guess if they played the Broncs 10 times they'd lose 8.

She has green and yellow palm trees coming out of her head (picture w/ you) and SHE pretended YOU didn't exist?!?!?

I agree, it is the way the game was meant to be played. No fake grass or controlled temperatures. Give me the nostalgia (unless it is Wrigley and the place is literally falling down around you).

Nostalgia at Wrigley. That's an interesting thought. "Remember back to those days when we lost all the time?"

Did you see Letterman the other night when he was talking about Steinbrenner firing Torre? "For god's sake, there are 4 and 5 year-old kids who have never seen the Yankees win a world series!"

The Rams have had some great games to watch thus far, reminiscent of the Cardiac Cards.

What are those folks in Green Bay going to do when global warming puts an end to the frozen tundra? Is it already happening? I don't see any coats in those pictures.

A-Rod should become a Cubs - no more concerns about playoff failures. Just big numbers in the regular season and then watch the playoffs on TV.

It was pretty warm at the game Sunday. I thought it would be colder that's for sure.

We did have to wear coats to Brad's game on Friday night, though.

A-Rod should become a Cardinal.

Rumor has it that the Cubs want to talk to Bruce Bochy. Wasn't Dusty's tenure of bad game management enough?

Unless A-Rod can become a #2 pitcher by next season to pitch behind Carpenter, he should stay with the Yankees.

The Cubbies interview Bob Brenly. That's a match made in heaven.

We are going to need another good hitter, too. We don't score enough runs. A number 2 pitcher won't be enough.

It will be interesting to see which pitchers they try to keep and which ones they go after. I think they will try to keep Suppan and Weaver, then try to sign a lefty like Buehrle or Pettitte. They definitely need another big bat in the lineup, someone with a high OPS (to make up for Juan E), and they need to resign Edmonds provided he recovers from his post-concussion problem. Then maybe one more arm in the bullpen that can get a strikout when needed.

I think a Juan/Duncan Platoon should be in the works for next year. They need to sign a big OF.
