Another Magical Evening

The Cards scored seven runs in the top of the ninth to beat the Reds 10-9 last night. John Mabry hit a two-run shot to put the Cards ahead. It's going to be a fun season.

Maybe they can reach the 100-win mark again.

In a couple of weeks I'll be attending the big interleague matchup at the K. I'm going with Andy who for some reason is a big Royals fan. How're you feeling about that game these days, Andy?

Dear Mr. Seamhead Sir,
If you will allow me to inject a little theology into this discussion: to root for the Royals is an exercise in Christian faith. As followers of Christ, we yearn for the day in which the reign of God on earth will be fulfilled and all nations will feast together at the heavenly banquet. We have not seen this as an actuality, but we know it to be true in God's future. We therefore are instructed by our Lord to live our lives in the here and now as if that "not yet" future is present.

As fans of the Kansas City Royals, we yearn for the day in which they actually win some games and all of Major League Baseball will know that the K is not a minor league ballpark. We have not seen this as an actuality, but we know it to be true in Tony Pena's future. We therefore are instructed by our Manager to live our lives with this team in the here and now as if they are actually decent baseball players.
By the way, such an attitude makes it possible for us to consider two wins in a row a "winning streak." Plus, if the boys in blue do actually beat the redbirds, just think of the bragging rights - we might even stop mentioning 1985 for a few days. ... Nah! On second thought, we will never stop mentioning 1985!
Faithfully yours,
Andy B.

Andy,

I thought it was MU basketbal fans who were exercising their Christian faith. I guess it's all the teams you root for.
